Why Mexico?

In a 2020 census, the USA’s State Department identified 11 percent of Mexicans as Protestant/Christian Evangelical. That means more than 114 million people in Mexico have yet to say yes to Jesus’ free gift of salvation.
OMS in Mexico
One Mission Society (OMS) began its ministry in Mexico in 1990. OMS missionaries in Mexico focus primarily on furthering the Gospel in Mexico City through ministries such as the OMS-related seminary and engaging with homeless youth, but they are also excited about and involved in ministry throughout the country. In October 2021, OMS Mexico and other partner ministries began more intentional, focused Gospel saturation ministries in the Circle of Silence in Mexico.
Circle of Silence
The Circle of Silence is eight states in the middle of Mexico that have the least amount of evangelical Christian presence. This area is well-known throughout the missions world, and less than 5% of its population is evangelical. Different people have referred to the Circle of Silence as “the black heart of Mexico;” others have called it “the cemetery of pastors” because it is such a difficult place to work in. OMS has active ministry and church partners in five of these eight states, led mainly by incredible national workers.

Despite its name and challenging religious reality, the Lord has passionate believers in the Circle of Silence, and they are eager to share God’s love and truth with their neighbors. OMS Mexico missionaries partner with Mexican believers to spread the full Gospel throughout the Circle of Silence and beyond.
My Great Commission Role
Part of my role in the Mexico field will be coordinating and welcoming short-term teams to Mexico that will further the Great Commission in Mexico in a variety of ways. Many teams will minister in the Circle of Silence. By God’s grace, more Mexicans will come to saving relationships with God through the efforts of these teams.
